Not aware of there being 500 trial versions of the KK, but I would say that such a claim is not correct, 500 trial vehicles is a massive amount for any vehicle type, and it represents more than the initial order placed by the Luftwaffe for these vehicles. Note; the KK was a Luftwaffe requirement for their use only at the beginning.
As the KK was a Luftwaffe vehicle their initial requirement was only for approximately 300-400 vehicles, and that would have been more than enough for all the needs of the Luftwaffe then and into their future as far as they could see.
But of course the war situation continued to change dramatically and it was only after the KK was proven to be so successful, particulary in Russia, that further quantities were ordered, first by the Heeres and later by the ever expanding Luftwaffe paratrooper units. Do not forget that until approximately mid 42, the Luftwaffe paratrooper arm remained about the same size as 1940-41, the 7th Fleiger Div and the FJ Sturm Rgt only, it was only later that Fallschirm Divisions 1 - 10 were created and the 7 Flieger and Sturm Rgt disbanded.
I cannot see quite what the e-bay site says and it now appears to have dissappeared, what was bid for this KK eventually ?
cheers Fred.

Hello sigve, 500 trial versions is ofcourse not correct, the first order was for 500 kettenkrads!! but as pauli mentioned the kettenkrad became also popular with the normal army and therefore the production of the kettenkrad was increased in 1943 with the highest monthly production in august 1944 !!! I already had this serial number and the kettenkrad is sold to a fellow countryman. So together with this one there should be around 9-10 kettenkrads in Holland right now! Regards, Roberto

Hi there Roberto, Why don't you consider starting a Kettenkrad Registry ? Having a website might get you even more information from my experience. It surely would be interesting for others to enjoy By the way, with all these german vehicles in Holland, it would be fun to gather them and start a meeting..

Hello Bart, As you could read at the beginning of this topic I am already forming a registry for kettenkrad serial numbers. I collected over 200 of them over the last few years and still am given new numbers by people on this forum. I don't collect names because kettenkrads often change hands and if I have serial number / engine number and building year that's enough for me ! gathering these german vehicles would be great but there's always the media who speak about "german invasion" if there are more than 2 german vehicles !! Regards, Roberto

Hello Roberto! Now our friend Nick has got his new Kettenkrad! Another number to add in your register. Would be very interesting to know total number of Norwegian krads? Also, do you have any l. gl. Pkw parts to swap? Your repro Notek bracket does not fit holes in mudguard - too small both ways. cheers, Einar

Hello einar,
Yes, I added nick's serial number to the list! there are some kettenkrads in Norway but these are mostly the early ones. so if you know any serial numbers please let me know. Just send me a pm what you need for lepkw and maybe I can help you ?? the repro bracket fits exactly my mudguard but I guess there were different types. If you look at original pictures you will notice that the front noteks were sometimes high on the mudguard and sometimes very low.
Regards, Roberto

Hello Cees! According to the 5 holes, in mudguard, it shall be positioned much lower, about in the middle of the tactical symbol. cheers, Einar

Hi Roberto, So what is the story now regarding Kettenkrad 11 0705 that was for sale recently on e-bay ? I heard that the sale was cancelled when the KK was seen for real in the UK ? Is this so and why ?

Is this so and why ? cheers Paul Hello Paul, Yes, the deal was cancelled because almost the whole upper part of this kettenkrad was made from 0.8 mm steel plate. very few parts were original and some changes were made that do not resemble like they were back in the forties. at least that's what the almost new owner told me It was better when he took an expert with him like you kind regards, Roberto

Hi Roberto,
My KK har number 110510.
It seems that the 1105xx series went exlusivly to Norway. All KK abroad in this series has been purchased in Norway at som time.
