It looks like the registration plates says WH, so they must be Wehrmacht. I read somewhere that the Hungarian (Rumanian?) army bought Type 40 as well (thinking of the uniforms of the drivers) so a wild guess could be that the vehicles had german plates during transportation? (I know, this is a weak point of view, ha) Nick, No, that’s correct!. It was in dependence from which agency the other Axis Forces get their vehicles from. For example: All of the BMW R75 which was delivered during 1943 to Spain, have been supplied with an WH-Licence plate. It is established that when one of the other “Friendly Nations” get their vehicles direct from a superior authority of the Wehrmacht; for example the “Feldzeugstelle”, all of the vehicles were delivered with an WH-Registration and a Licence Plate. That is already known for delivery contracts to Spain, Finland, etc. Holger

Thanks for the response Holger! So maybe I was not on that thin ice I thought! Nevertheless it is interesting to discuss a pic, it is like the old saying: one picture tells you more than a thousand words" - so true! Another thing Holger - have we been in contact before about a einheits radiocabin and tires for LKW? Nick...

BTW: Here is a photo from my collection (as I pic from to use in the magazine Mud & Snow). Notice the camo paint so it must have been taken early in the war. Anyone know when they stoped using this camopaint? [/quote] Rolf, is there any way to clear up the license plate of the 2th vehicle from left? Holger

I have made an effort to clear the license plate, but it is a small photo, only 5x4 cm. What I did sho you was the full length of the photo, but only partial of the hight. Have scanned the license plate at 4800 dpri (the highest I'v ever done). Made som tricks in photoshop and got the result below... And as far as I can read it is WH 64_77 or WH 84_77 Most likely the last one. And I am not able to see anything btweene the 4 and the 7.... Rolf

Thats come like a shot! Thanks Rolf! Will check my files deeper next time and perhaps......
At first, if the picture was taken during what they called the "Peace-Time" and the convoy was not transferred to the front, then will give us the license plate the following information:
WH 64x xxx = Wehrkreis VI Münster (Westfalen) WH 84x xxx = Wehrkreis VIII Breslau
I know that is just a piece of a puzzle where the picture was taken....

Hello ,
As a new member I would like to introduce myself, my name is robert and I come from Holland. I own a if 8 ( infantry cart) and a kettenkrad. My next project is a stoewer r200 ( radioversion) which I bought with my good friend Cees. Also a member of this forum. Reading this forum I noticed that a lot of l. einheits pkw. are missing the body and this was partially the same with mine. Luckely the last owner had a spare rear part which he sold together with I already had. I bought it in Sweden from a wellknown dealer in göteborg and I know this vehicle originates from Norway. I would like to find out more of the history of this vehicle, for example where it comes from , who owned it etc. etc. maybe somebody can help me ??
thanks in advance!
greetings, Robert

Hi Robert,
I think that Thomas keeps it as a special secret. I am sure that you had tried to ask him about this secret??
I believe that a picture would make it a lot easier to recollect the car if someone has seen the car before in Norway...

Hello holger,
You could be right that he keeps it as a special secret, because he wouldn't tell me who the former owner was. He also told me that a certain person had some vehicle parts in loan to reproduce but he never got them back. these are the things I am missing now!!! do you known more about the story ??
greetz, Robert

From my side, I haven’t seen this Stoewer before. But I think that the Stoewer - Community from Norway would be able to clearing up the backgrounds behind the sales...
