Here is my project truck. A 1944 Opel Blitz 6700A BR1Z24070. The Coach built fire truck body was built by Konrad Rosenbauer K.G.. The truck will gradually be rebuilt to its original war time spec with a GS body using bits from a spare parts 3 tonner. The grill and front panels were rebuilt using measurements and photos from Hans K's example. Some war paint has survived on the firewall. For now it gets a war time style repaint. Currently waiting on the engine rebuild to be completed cheers, MVNUT

Well , took me a while yesterday to scan the pics i had , computers !!!! Anyhowe , you c an see the basis was pretty good. Complete technical, but all the wood was gone , the whole body was kept together with nails. The engine was cracked in 2 places , so i had to find an other housing , the rest off the engine was like new ! The platework wasn't bad so that took not a big effort to restore. Only the woodwork costed me a lot off effort , never had done such a thing , but it's still together ! Then i left the project for a few years to work on other cars , then decided to finish the Blitz first. The rearbody is copied from an original body i measured , the hinges i had but where to short , perhaps from a 1,5 To ? So i made them new. The locks i had casted , wanted to have the Opel logo in ! The endresult you know. Hans.

The colour is original so to see and the dash is apart from some pushbutton next to the steering colomn very complete and original Haven't got any info on the war service except for the radiobody wich was fitted when the previous owner bought it. After the war the Blitz was used still as a radiocommunications vehicle in the Austrian army. It was demobbed in the early 60's i tought. The previous owner bought it in 1982 from a trader , when he got the vehicle home ( togeter with and another 4x4 Blitz , an original firetruck ( a bit modernized ) wich i had here briefly too!!) the radiobody was gone Even then i knew the Blitz already , it costed me 19 years until i could buy it. Underneath the green paint the original sandcolour was still there , like i wrote before , it was in pretty good shape !! The seller asked a very high price that time , now it would be peanuts for such a vehicle . About tyres , i wrote you long time ago i still could get them new , it are 8.00x 20 i think, altough it says 7.50 x20 on the tyre. Bought another second hand set because i couldn't fitt the double rearwheels. After searching for deeper rims for a while ( there are more than 8 different rims !!! ), i can fit them now , but i will drive the second hand for a while. Will ask the militairy vehicle dealer here in Holland if he still can deliver the new ones , if so i will anserw your question in the new tyretread . Hans.

Hallo Tony Are you shure that the "fire-coach" of your Blitz was build in war time?I have several informations about german fire-cars. like my informations, Rosenbauer built several fire-cars in post war time ca. 1947-1952 on war-time Opel Blitz 6700 A. Is there no type-plate from Rosenbauer in your car? Normal there must be two plates, opel and Rosenbauer. I know 1 Picture 1943 from a Magirus/Opel "Versuchsfahrzeug" with a cabin for 5 person since 1944 only the normal 3 person opel cabin.
Regards Henning

Hello!
I'm recently reseaching about this subject but with main focus on WW2 airfield fire fighting vehicles.
Magirus built one prototyp and an unknown number of the Tankspritze 1,5 for the German Airforce during WW2. It was very similar to the post WW2 Rosenbauer vehicle. It had a crew of five.
Due to unkown reasons the production of the Ts 1,5 for the Airforce was stopped soon. Only the Fire Police TLF15 (crew: three) kept in production and supplied to the Airforce too even it was unsuitable for usage on airfields.
It looks like the production of the Ts 1,5 based on the Airforce pattern was forwarded from Magirus to Rosenbauer and only a very small number was produced by Rosenbauer before the war ended. I've heard of only one remaining WW2 vehicle. All other vehicle were produced after the war based on Opel Blitz frames AND (!) existing WW2 fire fighting vehicles.
These WW2 fire fighting vehicles are only refered as TLF without furher detailed information.
The vehicles based only on the frames had reconstructed Tragkraftspritzen mounted on the rear side of the frame. All others had various pump configurations. It seems the genuine Magirus pumps were soon replaced by Rosembauer pumps. I saw similar post WW2 modifications on other WW2 fire fighting vehicles (e.g. LF15) in Austria.
It looks like there were serious problems importing spare parts from fMagirus that was located in the American Zone of Occupation in Germany.
The vehicle owned by Tony is a post WW2 production. But it seems it is based on a WW2 fire fighting vehicle.
It has two very modern styled type plates.
More asap.
Best Regards Guenter

HI Guys,
Yes, I believe the Rosenbauer body to be built around 1950. It in very good condition so it will stay on the truck for now. It can be a look-a-like Ts 1.5.
I want to get some stencils made to put the tyre pressures on the sides of the mudguards. what is tyre pressure stencil for an Opel Blitz??
Also, would it be more correct to put "Ts 1.5" on the doors as seen in one picture or the load data stencil?
can anyone help?
thanks Mvnut
